FFF "Lemon Twist" WordPress theme v1.5 Released for download!
I've been promising to release my WordPress theme and source files for some time now, and though I have been delayed a number of times already -- I thought that since this is Christmas, it would be nice to have something to give to everyone who has followed my blog over the last year.
Here it is, FFF “Lemon Twist” v1.5 available for download.
This theme is quite dear to me as it’s been something I’ve tweaked and adjusted until it’s as perfect as I can manage — I hope that you can all enjoy using it as much as I have enjoyed putting it together. I’ve gotten quite a few compliments for this theme and it’s been listed a few times on sites like SmashingMagazine.com.
I’ve also released the Photoshop source files (*.PSD) for the main theme along with a handful of the additional components you might need for other pages such as the search results (which has a slightly different style for the results). Also, I’ve released the template for the comments area — this will give you the opportunity to modify it as you see if.
For details about the theme and instructions on installing it, check out the readme file. Also, please consult the plug-ins list before posting support requests. Here are some direct links to the theme and source files:

In any case, please feel free to use this theme for your blogs; as always, if you choose to modify this theme in any way, I would appreciate it if you could keep my credits in the stylesheet and a link in the footer. I still have plans to release my own colour modifications of the theme, and if you beat me to it, I would love to see what you come up with!
Merry Christmas everyone!

Hmm.
Very nice, but there appears to be a problem withthe downloaded theme’s CSS. It doesn’t display the ‘white’ background properly.
Michael said:
Piggy & Tazzy, you need to install all the plugins, then your whitespace will show up properly. Plugins needed are in the readme file. Hope that helps. ![]()
Piggy and Tazzy said:
Thanks Michael.
That did the trick.
It’ll teach me to read the readme file properly next time!
Once again, FAB theme. Thanks for releasing it. I’ve a feeling this will become quite a popular one.
Chris said:
Hey folks, glad to see everyone is liking the theme so far — this has actually started me thinking about designing a new theme. Though I’m a little burnt out creatively, I’ll explore some ideas this Christmas break ![]()

Thanks a ton for releasing this, it’s a fantastic theme. I’m just having one problem though, when I click the about page it just takes me to the home page where all the posts are. Did you just copy everything into an ‘about’ folder and make one post for that page? It seems like it would work. Thanks in advance for any responses.
Piggy and Tazzy said:
I’m having the same problem as Mike.
Any other ‘pages’ I have simply go to the front page.
I’ve racked my brain trying to figure out what’s wrong, with no success.
Chris said:
Hey folks, for those of you wondering why your custom pages aren’t showing up, please read the following:
You will need to create an “About” page in the admin area (Manage>Pages). When you create a new page, you will need to specify which template you want to use — in this case the “About” template that was provided with the theme. As for inputting content — you write your heading and your body copy as if it were a regular post, and it will appear in your “About” page when you publish it.
This should apply for any other pages you might want to add (though I’ve only provided 2 custom template pages).
Also, here is a link from the WordPress site on how to add pages.

Chris, how exactly do I go about putting up my logo like yours? I can’t seem to figure out how to save the Photoshop file after I’ve tweaked it. Thanks ![]()
Michael said:
Or if I can’t do that, how would I replace the title of my site with a graphic I created? Thanks again ![]()
Chris said:
Hey folks, the public version of “Lemon Twist” theme is slightly different than the one you see on my site. For instance I’ve left out the logo styling that you see here, so that people can customize how they want their own logo to appear. However, here is the snippet of code that you can insert into your CSS file to style the header as it is here.
#logo {style.css (line 121)
background:transparent url(images/logo.png) no-repeat scroll left top;
color:#FFFFFF;
display:inline;
float:left;
font-size:1.9em;
font-style:italic;
font-weight:normal;
height:98px;
left:0px;
margin:0pt 0pt 0pt 10px;
overflow:hidden;
padding:0pt;
position:absolute;
text-indent:-9999px;
top:0px;
width:376px;
}
Be sure not to make the graphic too big (veritcally) otherwise you run the risk pushing down the header container.

Thank you so much for posting the updated theme and source files - fantastic, fantastic work!
Do you have any specific requests for how you want to be credited in the footer? Right now, my site (which is total WIP) says “Theme designed by Chris Murphy” with a link to your page - but do you want anything more specific or a link to a specific part of your site?
Thanks again == I’ playing around with some color mods and if anything turns out, I’ll certainly send you a link!
Chris said:
Hi Christina — thank you for the kind words and I’m glad you like the theme. In any case, most folks who have been using my other theme have provided a simple credit line like “Theme design by farfromfearless” — the name being the only link. That’s more than sufficient in my opinion. Post up a link to some of your design mods, I would love to see them ![]()

Great template. However, I do not use Flicker. How can I remove the Flicker widget and references?
Also, is this template widget friendly?
Thanks
Christina said:
Terrence - just remove the line that reads from the index.php file (it’s towards the bottom in the “set main lower content” section.
The theme isn’t widget-ready, but I’m sure it wouldn’t be all that difficult to modify it to be widget-compatible - though I’m not exactly sure what would need to be changed in the functions.php file or if a sidebar.php file would need to be created.
I’ve found it easier just to create my own “widget” of sorts by creating a PHP file including the code I want (and using the structure in the blogmeta.php and others as a template) in it and then referencing that file in the main index.php page. If you go to my site (a total, total work in progress - I’m not trying to plug anything), you can see that I’ve added a basic Wordpress calendar and then as a test, a place for an Adsense panel in addition to the built-in stuff.
Widgetizing the theme might be really easy - but I’m pretty new to all of this stuff so I just went for what worked for me.

Theres so much editing to be done with this. Thought it would be widget ready, seeing as its a nice clean theme, but meh…
Two problems:
1. The home page is all well and good. When you click the permlink on a post. It shows the writting that you seen on the home page, and then it repeats itself below, in non bold text. Any ideas?
Im getting round the others.
Anto said:
Yes that was the other thing. Your recent comments.. the comment left, is inline with the title, how do i get it inline?
Chris said:
Hi Anto. I never stated that the theme was Widget ready. But it doesn’t take much work at all to enable it to be Widget ready.
I use the “Optional Excerpt” field in the WP editor, and that is what you see rendered in bold text at the beginning of each of my entries. If you don’t want to use that feature, simply comment out “echo $excerpt” in “single.php” and “index.php”.
Without seeing the issue with your comments, I’m not sure how I can help you.

If you look at the comments there, and let me know how to get them equal to yours.
Chris said:
Anto, the plugin requires that you use a certain format for making the comments appear as they do on my site. Please take a look at the README.txt file included in the theme zip.
Anto said:
Good stuff, i got it, i didnt read it carefully. But if i have any other problems, etc.. can i ask?

I, for the life of me, can’t figure out how to change the picture of you at the top of the page. When I go to “Read More”, it gives me the following: “No input file specified”. Any ideas? Thanks!

Hi Devin, if you want to replace my photo with one of your own, take a look in the “images” directory and search for an image called “author.png” — I’ve provided Photoshop templates which you can use as a basis (dimensions, etc) for creating a version for yourself.

Very nice theme indeed, Chris. One thing I noticed, the comment “bubbles” have a problem when seeing under IE (version 7). It shows the bottom broken up by a one or two line space.
Chris said:
Hi David, I’m just noticing that issue as well — it’s aggravating to see it working on my dev server and not online — so unusual. In any case, I’ve done a major refactoring of my markup and CSS and will be releasing a new version of the theme in the next couple of weeks. Stay tuned ![]()

I’ve been getting a few notes from folks wondering how they have their first paragraph in their text in bold as it appears on my blog. The current theme does not take into account writers who do not use the “Optional Excerpt” feature in the editor. I’ve mentioned that you can simply comment out the line:
echo $excerpt...
However this does not effectively deal with cases where writers do want to use the “Optional Excerpt “feature. The following code snippet is the result of some refactoring I’ve been doing lately:
Note: Remove the space between “< " and "?".
< ?php
#check to see of the post has an excerpt
if ( !empty($post->post_excerpt) ){
$excerpt = get_the_excerpt();
echo ” < p class=\"excerpt\" >“;
echo $excerpt;
echo “< /p >“;#add the content
the_content(’Read more…’);
}else{
#an excerpt does not exist for this post so use the regular content
the_content(’Read more…’);
}
? >This sippet can replace the codeblocks in index.php, and single.php (there might be one other page but I cannot recall which).
Hope this helps!
