Aside from creative writing, digital art and illustration has always been one of my interests. I don't come from a fine arts background but the foundation courses I took while in school for Graphic Design served to open doors for me creatively. I experimented with various media but to be quite honest, I didn't have the patience to literally watch the paint dry. My sketchbook at the time was something I could glean immediate satisfaction when I completed a particular piece, especially when I switched over to digital.

Mike Zavacky – a colleague here at the marketing Agency where I work, invited me to show at a local gallery with a number of other artists here in Ottawa. The show is titled “Men on Women” at La Petite Mort Gallery, downtown Ottawa.

An eclectic mix of male artists give their visual take on the female sex! Michael Zeke Zavacky, Lawrence Callender, Juan Carlos Noria and others serve up some hot artwork of women in a variety of styles and mediums.La Petit Mort Gallery

In the spirit of sharing, I thought it would be of interest to some folks to see some of the pieces that I am working on for this showing. The following images are all captures from my work in progress; feel free to crit, comment, etc. I’ve only recently picked up painting again, and it’s amazing how many techniques and principles I am only now re-learning.

This first piece is based on the main character of a book I am currently writing ( the first draft is completed ). The book borrowed so much in terms of cultural influences, both Mediterranean and middle-eastern, that I really wanted to explore how the blending of those cultures come across in the clothing, and ornamental aspects of her armour. There is still a lot of work to be done on this piece but I am quite happy with the direction.

This second set are studies for another piece I will attempt after I complete the work you see above.

This recent study was done in about an hour and a half, and my goal behind it was really to practice some basic principles in panting feacial features, such as the nose and mouth. In any case, I think I will continue to post my digital work here in the future, so you may see more of my studies and sketches. I also have an account over at CGTalk, on which I may post a small portfolio.
